Diagnosing Mesothelioma


Like all forms of cancer, mesothelioma must be diagnosed as early as possible in order to maximize the effectiveness of treatment. Unfortunately, many people with the disease face several obstacles to the diagnosis. One problem is the long latency period of mesothelioma, it can develop over many years or decades before the sudden onset of symptoms. There is also a health problem difference between mesothelioma and other diseases with similar symptoms.

The good news is that researchers are working every day to develop more effective and reliable methods for diagnosis of mesothelioma. If your doctor suspects that you may suffer from peritoneal, pericardial, and pleural mesothelioma, he or she may recommend some or all of the tests described below. If you have a history of asbestos exposure, it is vital to tell him or her of that fact.
